'The Brotherhood of Bodmin'
Unknown, 2014. off Fore Street.
This striking piece depicts the separate elements of a strand of DNA. Stylised lettering can be seen interspersed around the genomes - an upside-down 'A', for example, or a 'T'. Yet, on closer inspection the detail is reminiscent of lettering from various cultures – a Chinese or Sanskrit symbol, a scrambled Latin phrase, perhaps. This piece delivers the clear message that we, the people of Bodmin, are all human - all living, breathing, surviving in this great bubble of terrestrial existence. More than that – the vivid colours reflect the richness and vibrancy of the cultural mix, championing the concept of equality. This exquisite piece exposes the brotherhood existing between the different cultural factions which make up our bountiful cultural home town.
